I feel seen.Īnd I remember the gremlin Twilight Zone episode vividly so enjoyed the version on a school bus. I laughed at the bit where Homer is in Hell and being force fed an infinite number of doughnuts and still wanting more. They’re not doing anything new, they’re just taking an existing idea and replacing the characters with Simpsons characters and hoping it will be funny. And that’s what a felt about several of the episodes so far. Homer’s shocked, until he looks just to the side and sees the store, the vendor coyly yelling out, You’ll be sorry The Simpsons go to Springfield and begin using the wishes. He points to the store just over where a tornado is running through.

I’m a massive fan of parody (I saw Weird Al Yankovic live in concert last month and watched the two Hot Shots! movies last week) but it needs to be smart parody, not just a recreating scenes from other movies and TV shows with different characters. After Marge, disgusted that Homer’s bought the Monkey’s Paw, asks where he got it. I thought The Raven adaptation was very well done, though.

While these wishes are largely different from those featured in Jacobs' short story, the idea of wishes having twisted consequences is very much lifted from that original work. Barbara Minerva wishes to become an “ apex predator,” transforming into a cheetah-human hybrid as part of the Dreamstone’s toll, giving up her humanity in the process, and villain Maxwell Lord wishes to “become” the stone, but his body begins to deteriorate under the artifact’s influence and he almost loses his son.

In Wonder Woman 1984, the Dreamstone is portrayed as a monkey’s paw-like device granting wishes to those who hold it, but throwing unintended consequences their way by taking away something dear in return. As in "The Monkey’s Paw," Wonder Woman uses the power of the Dreamstone to bring a dead loved one back to life, reviving Steve Trevor (Chris Pine), who died during the climax of 2017’s Wonder Woman. As a result, her powers and abilities start to fade. It tells the story of a family granted three wishes by an ancient monkey's paw artifact, only to see their wishes granted in devastating ways as punishments for interfering with fate.
